As a Soul Midwife and Funeral Celebrant I can help you at any point - from a dying prognosis to your deathbed,

and right through to your funeral with your eulogy and a celebration of your life.

As a Soul Midwife and Funeral Celebrant I support dying people and their families and friends 

through the physical and emotional processes of their transition.. It felt natural to also conduct their Funerals.

Who Am I?

My name is Liz Crichton and I have lived in the Tortosa and Ebro Delta region of Tarragona since 2016. 

 I love random acts of kindness, and the unconditional love of my dogs. I also love ice-cream and walking.

. 

But what really puts fire in my belly and joy in my heart is to support people, especially through dying and death. 

How can a total stranger want to be there at the worst times of people's lives?

There are thousands of people doing this sacred work. The modern name for this role is Death Doula or Soul Midwife. 

Not long ago it was natural for an elder of a village to tend to the dying. It was support for the person and the family.

Empathy and compassion comes naturally to me, but my own losses have brought a depth of understanding. 

I have survived the death of my husband, every single member of my closest family, and numerous friends, 

So, I have honed this inner strength and natural ability to help people to face the very worst situations. 

As an holistic therapist for 30+ years I have already supported people through pain, anxiety, grief, and trauma .  

I am calm and cheerful with a dry sense of humour which helps hold together difficult situations.

How Can I Help When You're Dying?

 I can help you and your family find peace and ease concerns when you're dying. 

At any point in your dying process I can help you prepare practically and emotionally as well as spiritually. 

I am trained as a non-denominational Soul Midwife and Funeral Celebrant to respect humanity's differences. 

So, I will honour and respect your beliefs and whatever else makes you uniquely you. 

I can support you with the practicalities of getting your affairs, concerns, and even relationships in order

.so that you can have exactly what you want ....and just as importantly none of what you don't want. 

I can help you plan your legacy, your advanced care plan and your funeral plan. 

I can also explain what happens during the dying process to you, your family and carers.

We all want as peaceful a death as possible.  Sadly too many people die in a hospital corridor,

simply because their carers panic, when what's happening during the death process is perfectly natural. 

Inner peace is best gift you can give yourself AND leave for your loved ones. 

What Are My Qualifications?

As a Soul Midwife I trained with the award-winning Soul Midwife Felicity Warner 

and the award-winning Soul Midwife and Funeral Celebrant Katie Costello. 

As a Funeral Celebrant I trained with the Academy of Professional Celebrants to conduct Celebrations of Life..

I also speak Spanish so can talk with Funeral Directors and walk everyone through Funeral formalities and paperwork. 

How Can I Help With Funerals?

I'm a native English speaker so I understand the British culture and humour. I know where to be solemn and where to bring in the funny stories that make you or your person's life unique. 

Sadly, I was at an elderly friend's funeral recently. The Funeral Director provided their own employee; 'their very own English-speaking Celebrant' to conduct the service.  Sadly her English was very basic and her accent made it unintelligible. 

It made me really sad as she could do no more than read a dry rendition of his very long and lively life: born here, school there, married here, family names, died there.. No mention of anything that made him truly unique. Any stories lacked the emotion they deserved. I don't want to criticise, honestly I don't. The family didn't know until it was too late and of course they were burying their dad and just wanted the ordeal over. But it could have been so much more personal to truly honour their lovely old dad!

It didn't help that, in usual British fashion, everyone praised the lovely lady at the end. She genuinely did her best. 

Of course her boss, the Funeral Director, is none the wiser that we didn't understand her, nor that the cultural difference is vast..  

So, you do NOT need to use the person that the Funeral Directors suggest!

Celebrants are able to conduct funerals or memorials (almost) anywhere and can be booked directly.

Do You Really Only Have 48 Hours for a Funeral? 

With most funerals taking place within 48 hours in Spain I'm delighted to announce that I have an agreement 

with the local crematoria (from Benicarlo to Mora) and they are happy to extend to a week at no extra charge.

This will allow your family & friends time to book flights and hotels & arrange dog-sitters or emergency passports if needed.   

However we still need to act fast to make sure we can create the best version of your person's funeral, so please contact me ASAP.

I will work quickly and closely with you and the family to capture and honour your person's unique history and character.

Together we can create a memorable, heart-warming and poignant ceremony to bring comfort and closure..
